Blog Entry 17 – Final Project: Brochure Spreads

This project is done out of my love for the game of baseball. The background of the brochure is done in a gradient going from red to white then to blue because baseball is known as the American Past Time. On the back side of the brochure is a listing of all of ballparks in America and Canada. The inside consists of the all of the teams that are apart of the MLB. Along with in the middle section is a little history about the game of baseball. I went with black lettering because I believe that it sticks out best against the gradient.

Blog Entry 16 – Magazine Spreads

This one is successful because of all of the subheadings catch your eye.

This is successul because of the picture. It is bright and very eye catching.

This one is successful because of the bold header at the top of the page. The picture also really helps the piece out a lot.
This one is successful because the pictures and the graph really stick out. Along with the bold blue lettering throughout the story help as well.

What is successful about this article is the big peice of velcro across the middle of the page. It sticks out from everything else.

Blog Entry 13 – Project 2 Research Sketches

This business is called Quick Dry. It is a company that makes heaters to dry out wet baseballs or softballs. The top picture is of the word mark design that I came up with and the symbol that I also came up with. The second picture is a combination of the two. I chose this business because I love the game of baseball and I know how expensive it can be to keep on buying more and more baseballs or softballs each year.

Blog Entry 12 – The Non-Designer's Design Book: Type Categories

This is oldstyle because it has serifs and it also has this thick look to it.

This is modern because it is very bold and a striking look to it.

This is slab serif because it has serifs and is very easy to read the words.

This is sans serif because there are no serifs on the end of each letter.

This is script because all of the letters are connected together to make words.

This is decorative because the letters have a funky design to them to give them a fun and crazy look.

Blog Entry 11 – The Non-Designer's Design Book: Type

This is concord because it is simple and the type is all the same.

This is concord because this example is also simple. There are two examples of type but the larger one is just to make it stand out as the header.

This is conflict bceause there are different font types and your eyes bounce around everywhere.

This is also conflict because of the different typefaces. Your eyes kind of wander up and down between the word at the bottom to what is up at top.

This is contrast because of some of the words stick out because they are in bold fact or their font is bigger.

This is also contrast because the word MEDIA really sticks out and they are trying to drive home the importance of this word.

Blog Entry 10 – The Non-Designer's Design Book: Alignment

This is a good example because all of the letters are aligned to the left.

This is a good example because all of the text starts from the left and the cars do not interupt the text.

This is a good example because it has everything categorized under the proper headings.

This is a good example because this also has everything aligned to the left and has everything under the appropriate heading.

This is a good example because everything is aligned in the middle and forces your eyes straight down.

This is a bad example because everything is in two categories then it starts to go down the middle.

This is a bad example because the headings are all over the place and your eyes bounce around everywhere.

Blog Entry 5- Project 1: Research

Tyler Stephenson
Research
Maggie Taylor

For Maggie Taylor’s artwork she shows how that with each art work she is trying to put you at the scene that she is painting for you. How she can relate to people is that on her website she has different categories for like men, women, boys and girls, and this and that. How this relates is that if a male was looking for art work he can look at male things that he can connect with. The thing that I find most intriguing with her art work is how she tries to make everything seem like it belongs in the “olden days”. Maybe she is trying to send a message that we should live like how they did in the olden days because maybe they had it a little simpler in life than what we have it now.
Levi Van Veluw

For Levi Van Veluw’s artwork he loves to use himself as his artwork, mainly using his head. But instead of just using his face and how he looks he uses different textures, objects, and lighting to show to the viewers what he is trying to do with his artwork. His piece titled Lights really caught my eye. The way how he used a black in the background really made the light that he used on his face stand out. I hope to do the same with my project in how I would like to use the black ground to really make my artwork really stand out.

Blog Entry 1: Photo-Based Design Interaction

In this picture the company is trying to show that your room will smell like a Hawaiian Breeze after you spray your room with it by showing a picture of a pinapple and flower.

For the Frosted Flakes the company is trying to show the flakes covered in sugar to show the tasty goodness of them.
The body was is trying to say that your body will smell like you FIJI after you use it, along with the clean feeling afterwards.
In this picture they are trying to show how delicious the noodles with big chunks of chicken are going to taste after you cook them.
The picture of the popcorn is trying to show that the company receives their popcorn from real corn, along with dashes of white cheddar splashed on there.
